Kai Havertz has been hailed by fans for showing 'bottle' after he emphatically converted his penalty at the second time of asking to put Chelsea in front in their Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund.

Kai Havertz has been hailed by fans for showing 'bottle' after he emphatically converted his penalty at the second time of asking to put Chelsea in front in their Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund.

Heading into Tuesday night's clash, Chelsea trailed 1-0 from the first leg after Karim Adeyemi scored the only goal of the game in Germany.

 But Raheem Sterling leveled the tie just before half time at Stamford Bridge, and Havertz was given the chance to put his side ahead on aggregate when Chelsea were awarded a penalty for handball shortly after half time.

 The German international, who had not scored since January, stepped up but saw his effort come back off the post.  However, he was given a reprieve as some Dortmund players had encroached before he had taken his spot-kick.

 After a lengthy delay, Havertz was given a second opportunity and this time he made no mistake.  Fans were quick to praise the 23-year-old for holding his nerve at such a crucial moment for his team.

 'Yes Havertz, the coolest man in the stadium, how brilliantly he scored a penalty with just two attempts!  Superb!  one supporter posted on Twitter.

 'Wow, some bottle there Havertz.  Brilliant penalty, another fan added.

 'The b******* to do the exact same thing after missing the first attempt, bloody brilliant from Havertz,' another fan agreed.

 Havertz has split Chelsea's fanbase in recent months, with the side having a major issue with scoring goals under Graham Potter.

 However, one supporter pointed out that Havertz deserved credit for putting that behind him and delivering to his side when he was needed most.
